Registrar’s Office Business Continuity Plan

The Registrar’s Office is committed to providing alternatives for key services to support registration, transfer credit, degree audit, graduation and student records when students and staff are not on campus. Please review this information for guidance. Requests for additional information can be submitted through the links on our contact page.

Registration and Schedule Adjustments

All registration and schedule adjustment activities will continue to occur online. Summer 2020 Session registration is currently available.

Fall 2020 Advance Registration will begin as scheduled on March 30th for graduate students and March 31st for undergraduate students. The Academic Calendar provides important registration dates and deadlines. Registration Appointments determine when current students become eligible to register based on earned credits.

As always, undergraduate degree-seeking students will need advising clearance in order to register. Academic advisors will advise students remotely. Check your academic department’s web site or The Official of Academic and Pre-Professional Advising for more information.

Students with questions and concerns regarding registration should contact our registration team.

Graduation

The Registrar’s Office is working remotely with academic departments to ensure that reviews for Spring 2020 undergraduate candidates proceed normally. The graduation team provides updates and communicates information regarding graduation status to applicants by email. We encourage Spring 2020 applicants to monitor their myUMBC accounts for important information and updates. Degrees will be confirmed and diplomas will be awarded on schedule.

Students with questions regarding graduation should contact our graduation team.

Although in-person ceremonies will not happen this May, we encourage graduation candidates to visit the Commencement website for information and to share questions and ideas.

Degree Audit

Degree audits for current students continue to be available online. Students should discuss questions about their academic progress with their academic advisor and send degree audit questions to our team.

Transfer Credit Services

The Registrar’s Office is processing transfer credit evaluations for both current and incoming students remotely and transfer credit reports remain available online.

Current students who are considering taking classes at other institutions in the summer or fall should complete a Verification of Transferability form electronically before enrolling to ensure that the course will transfer and fulfill requirements as expected.

At this time we strongly encourage students who are sending transcripts to UMBC for transfer credit evaluation to leverage electronic send options offered by the sending institution to avoid delays in processing paper transcripts received in the mail.

Questions and requests for help can be sent to our transfer services team.

Student Records

The Registrar’s Office is processing updates to student records remotely.

Students can submit declarations or changes to majors, minors and certificates to our records team electronically.

Official transcripts can be requested in PDF format. EDI (electronic data interface) transcripts are also available for requests to be sent to partner institutions.

Those who need verifications of enrollment or degrees can request certificates through the National Student Clearinghouse or when more information is needed can request a letter from the Registrar’s Office which will be provided electronically.

Others update requests or questions about records should be sent to our records team.

Veterans Services

Veteran students will continue to be able to submit certification requests electronically and should send questions to our certifying official.
