Who We Are
Our mission is to provide the UMBC community with high-quality services related to academic programs, enrollment, records, and graduation. We are committed to ensuring the integrity of academic records and we value diversity and creativity while maintaining due diligence in professionalism, respect, and efficiency in our work.
What We Do
1. Academic Records Maintenance and Services
The Registrar’s Office serves as the steward of academic records at UMBC. This includes but is not limited to the maintenance of enrollment records, grades, transfer credit, academic standing, degrees and student biographic and demographic data.
As custodians of the academic record, we provide transcripts, enrollment and degree verification, transfer credit reports, diplomas, and more. We review residency petitions and certify enrollment for veteran educational benefits.
2. Enrollment and Related Services
The Registrar’s Office oversees all registration operations, including system setup and providing guidance and support to students and faculty navigating the enrollment process.
These operations include, but are not limited to, academic calendars, enrollment appointments, schedule adjustment, course and semester withdrawals and support for special enrollment programs such as Interinstitutional Registration.
3. Catalog and Scheduling Services
The Registrar’s Office maintains all UMBC course offerings in Peoplesoft Student Administration (SA) and handle the publication of the Undergraduate Catalog. In partnership with academic departments, we create and publish the Fall and Spring Schedule of Classes.
The Graduate School publishes the Graduate Catalog.
The Office of Summer/Winter Programs schedule the summer and winter special session classes.
4. Undergraduate Progress
The Registrar’s Office implements, maintains and provides user guidance for academic planning tools including undergraduate degree audits, degree planner, and transfer course equivalency databases. We complete transfer credit evaluations. We oversee the undergraduate graduation application process, facilitate undergraduate graduation reviews and post degrees for undergraduate students.
The Graduate School manages Graduate Progressions.
5. Compliance
The Registrar’s Offices upholds university enrollment and academic policies, and ensures that UMBC’s practices regarding student records are compliant with FERPA and with external governing regulations.
