Diplomas

All undergraduate students who have graduated, per the final review process conducted by the Registrar’s Office, will receive their undergraduate diploma in the mail. Undergraduate diplomas are not distributed at the commencement ceremony. Students can expect to receive their diploma at their mailing address four to six weeks after their degree has been conferred.

Students who have outstanding financial holds will not have their diploma ordered until their financial holds are resolved.  Students with financial holds are encouraged to contact Student Business Services with questions.

Graduate students should contact the Graduate School for information regarding their diplomas.

Below is a list of frequently asked questions regarding undergraduate diplomas:

Diplomas display your full primary name (first, middle and last). If you need to update your name, please complete the Personal Information Update form on the Registrar’s Office website. Two proofs of legal documentation are required. A list of acceptable forms of legal documentation are provided on the form.

If you prefer to have your chosen name on your diploma instead, please reach out to the Graduation Team.

Minors, certificates, and tracks/concentrations within academic majors are not printed on diplomas. They are, however, printed on the official transcript, which is the University’s official record of your coursework.

Our undergraduate diplomas are 12″ x 15″.

Students who graduate as a Multiple Degree student will receive one diploma for each academic major. Students who graduate as a Multiple Major student will receive one diploma for their primary major only. Their secondary major will be listed on their official transcript.

For students who want their diploma sent to an international mailing address, please contact graduation@umbc.edu.

Students can view and update their mailing address on their myUMBC profile page.

A replacement diploma for undergraduate students can be ordered through the Registrar’s Office. Diplomas are $50 per diploma domestic only. Undergraduate diplomas are ordered at the end of each month, and take four to six weeks to print and mail to students once they are ordered.
