Academic Policies

The academic policies found in the catalog are intended to support the primary purpose of a university – the acquisition of knowledge – by establishing standards of student performance and acceptable conditions for attending UMBC.

Declaration and Update of Major

Students can declare or update their academic major, minor, and/or certificates with the Registrar’s Office. Once declared or updated, students transcripts and degree audits will reflect the change, and allow students to be assigned to the appropriate academic advising resources.

Enrollment and Degree Verification

The Registrar’s Office will provide verification of enrollment and degree by request from a student to provide to a third party. For further information, click here.

Protecting Your Information

UMBC does its part to keep your information safe. The Family Educational Rights and Privileges Act (FERPA), provides options for sharing and/or withholding your information.

Official copies of your UMBC transcript can be sent directly to you or to another recipient with your authorization. The cost is $8.00 for an electronic or paper transcript. To order your transcript, click here.
