Enrollment and Degree Verification

The Registrar’s Office will provide verification of enrollment and degree by request from a student to provide to a third party.

The National Student Clearinghouse is the designated agent for the University for verification of enrollment and degrees for current and former students. The National Student Clearinghouse follows all federal privacy laws, such as the Family Education and Privacy Rights Act. These enrollments may be used to provide proof of enrollment for loan deferments, scholarship applications, employment opportunities, and other purposes. Enrollment and degree verification documents should not be confused with official transcripts.

Enrollment Verification: Current Student

Current UMBC students may access the National Student Clearinghouse. There is no fee associated with this request.

The National Student Clearinghouse has the following free services:
  • Print a free certificate of enrollment that can be forwarded to a health insurance provider, housing provider, credit issuer, or other student services providers. Certificates of enrollment may include the following information:
    • Current Enrollment Data for Fall semesters available starting October 1st.  Current Enrollment Data for Spring semesters available starting March 1st.  
      • Full-time / Part-time Status
      • Term Begin and End Dates
    • All Enrollment Data
      • Dates of attendance at UMBC
      • Full-time/Part-time Status
  • View enrollment information that may have been provided to a student services provider.
  • View the electronic notification and deferment forms that have been sent to lenders, service providers or guarantors.
  • View a list of your lenders and link to real-time student loan information detail, such as principle balance and next payment due date that some lenders provide.

Current students may also request a letter from the University verifying enrollment for the current or upcoming term in which a student is enrolled. This letter includes a raised UMBC seal and the signature of the Registrar. There is a fee for this service. Students can order this letter here.

Enrollment Verification: Alumni, Previous Students, and Third Party

Alumni and previously enrolled students who do not have a current myUMBC login, but who attended UMBC within the last eighteen months, can request an enrollment and/or degree verification directly from the National Student Clearinghouse.

As an additional service, the National Student Clearinghouse will also provide third parties a verification of enrollment and degree(s) earned at UMBC. Prospective employers, insurance providers or other agencies can request a verification of enrollment and degree(s) earned by contacting the National Student Clearinghouse at 703-742-4200 or by visiting the following links:

Current students and alumni can also request an official transcript that includes a notation of degrees awarded as well as semester and cumulative grade point averages and course information.

Enrollment Verification
  • Free for currently enrolled students if requested online through the National Student Clearinghouse Student Self-Service website
  • $2.50 – For Alumni, previous students, parents, and agencies requesting online verification through the National Student Clearinghouse Verification Services website
  • $5.00 – If requested through the Registrar’s Office
Degree Verification
  • $18.45 – For Alumni, students,parents, and agencies requesting online verification through the National Student Clearinghouse Verification Services website
  • $15.00 – If requested through the Registrar’s Office
Document Retrieval fee
  • $25 per document -This fee will be incurred for items such as catalog course descriptions that are not available online. Other examples include, but are not limited to, any requests for archival data related to student records.
